Finals week is in full swing, which means I am suffering from a lack of sleep and an overload of work. However, here are a few things getting me through and what I’ll be looking forward to when I’m done.
one // The Met Gala – It’s today!!! It’s one of my favorite days of the year – between the theme, the outfits, the decorations and the exhibit that follows I can’t even pick a favorite part. The first thing I’m going to do when I’m back in New York is check out the new exhibit. The theme this year Comme des Garçons (French for “like some boys”) and I can’t wait to see what kind of elaborate outfits people wear this year. If you’re as obsessed with it as I am and also sad it’s invite only, “The First Monday in May” documentary is a must-watch. It’s all about the gala and Anna Wintour’s work for it and focuses on the 2015 China Through the Looking Glass gala/exhibit (available to stream on Netflix).
two // Girl Boss – I made the mistake of starting the new Netflix show Girl Boss on Saturday, not realizing that it was a series and not a movie. It’s based loosely on the founder of Nasty Gal, Sophia Amoruso, and if you haven’t seen it, you have to start watching. ASAP. Sophia (in the show) is a little bit crazy but fearless, incredibly street smart, and inspiring. I just finished episode three and the basis of it is Sophia trying to find a name for her site. She struggles to get her friends to understand the importance of a great name, which is something I went through just over a month ago when I started this blog. I swear I was starting to drive my friends crazy sending them upwards of twenty messages a day throwing out different name ideas. I don’t know if I relate to it so much because of the creative passion and interest in fashion that fueled this blog, but whatever it is, it’s a great show so far and I already don’t want the first season to end.
three // Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt – A little bit more tv, but Netflix is really killing it with the original shows lately. I watched seasons 1 and 2 of Unbreakable earlier in the semester and got hooked. It’s a hilarious, feel-good, easy to watch show, perfect for the end of a long semester. Season 3 comes out mid-May and I couldn’t be more excited!
four // Charleston – Every time I see a blogger I follow visit Charleston it creeps higher and higher up my list of places I want to visit. I’m finally getting the chance to go this weekend and as of now it’s supposed to be a beautiful sunny day and not too hot (knock on wood). I’ve been reading up on different things to do there, but if you have any must see/do/eat recommendations let me know!
five // Stand-Up Comedy – Since I’ve already touched on Netflix for ¾ of the previous parts of this post, why not go full circle and bring it back. My best friend LOVES stand-up comedy and quotes it all the time, leading me to believe she’s really funny, when really she just watches really funny comedians. She got me hooked on Iliza Shlesinger, who is now one of my absolute favorites. She makes fun of everything millennial and college age women do, but she does it so well and I end up dying of laughter and embarrassment after she calls out all the bad habits of my friends and I. The other big one she loves is John Mulaney, who is equally hysterical, but more geared toward everyone. If you’re looking for a good laugh, either one’s Netflix specials will get you there, and hopefully both can help you get through the final stretch of this semester.
