Apple Picking at Fishkill Farms

Since leaving New Jersey my family has had TERRIBLE luck with apple picking. Last year we rented a car and drove all the way to New Jersey and couldn’t get the apples my mom wanted. I was hopeful that trying a new farm in a new state would bring good luck this year.

On our way back from the Catskills, Max and I stopped at Fishkill Farms for an afternoon of apple picking and cider donuts. We had made a reservation in advance and drove up to the orchard with no problems.

The signs within the orchard and the map were pretty confusing but we thought we had found the apples my mom wanted. They were red and green, not fully red, but I couldn’t tell for sure what type they were. I tried one and thought it tasted fine, so we picked until our bags were filled to the brim, then lugged them back to the car.

We paid and headed over to the farm stand. Granted it was late in the day on a Sunday but the line for the shop where the donuts were was 45 minutes long and the cider was completely sold out. I was disappointed but it was late so we called it an afternoon and headed back to the city donut and cider-less. At least we had the apples.

Upon returning, my mom informed me that we had not purchased pounds of the apples she wanted, but a ton of Granny Smith apples. Another year, another failed attempt. They do taste great in apple desserts though.

In more positive news, this dress is only $15 from Target and currently on sale for only $12. It’s cotton so fairly comfortable and easy to wear or layer, as I did with this plaid shirt. I sized up and it was still a little short on me due to my curves but for the price, I’m not complaining.
