Halloween is one of my favorite holidays. I love getting dressed up and of course, can’t complain about the candy. This year my best friend came to visit for Halloweekend and we kicked it off with Hershey Park after Dark. Neither of us had been in years, but when you buy a day ticket you get a 2.5-hour preview the day before. We started with the wooden roller coaster Comet, which just made us feel old and hurt our heads, but the trip only went uphill from there! The rides were definitely scarier and more intense at night, especially with the wind, so we didn’t get on too many of them Friday night, but Saturday the weather was perfect and we had a great day at the park. We drove back to DC Saturday night to go out for Halloween, but not before I bought half my weight in candy. I finally tried the Reese’s with Reese’s Pieces inside and I have to say, they were pretty good! Below are some more pictures from Halloween and what’s been on my radar this week.
one // Halloween in DC – One of the best things about going to American University is living next to Embassy Row. Every year on Halloween the Embassies open up their doors to trick-or-treaters young and old and hand out international candy. If you’re in the DC area you can find more event details here.
two // Denim Jacket on Sale – What feels like ages ago, in my first month of blogging, I shared a post on spring transitional pieces, which included this embroidered denim jacket. I saw it in Bloomingdales last week and was shocked it was still available so many months later. It’s still available online and it’s 60% off! It’s getting to be a little too cold for it now, but it runs a little large so you can wear a chunky sweater underneath it, no problem. I love the detailing on the back and the color – in person it’s much lighter and more of a natural-looking light wash color than in the pictures online.
three // Bedroom Floor – I missed the boat on One Direction and didn’t start to like them until after they stopped making music, but I’m not making the same mistake with their solo albums. In a shocking twist, they defied the odds and have been doing incredible as solo artists. I currently have Liam Payne’s Bedroom Floor on repeat. I’ve also had Meant to Be by Bebe Rexha and Stargazing on my shuffle lately but I’m always looking for new songs so send me recs!
four // A New Podcast – Over the summer I got really into podcasts but it only lasted about a week. They’re great when you do a lot of walking (like in New York) or driving, but in DC I don’t do as much of either so I struggle to find time to listen to them. Last week, I binged “Dirty John” in less than 2 days. If you listened to “Serial” and “S-Town”, you should definitely listen to “Dirty John”. If you haven’t listened to any podcasts yet and are into true crime stories, definitely start with “Serial”. “Up & Vanished” is next on my list but again, send me recommendations for ones you’ve liked!
five // The Best Rain Boots – When I was in high school all I wanted was a pair of Hunter Boots. I saved up my babysitting money and waited for them to go on sale. I finally got myself a pair of purple tall glossy boots and I loved them… until I realized how heavy and tall they were. They were great for walking outside or snowy days, but sitting in them in class all day was so uncomfortable. I’d been wanting a pair of the flexible tour version but wasn’t ready to spend another $150 on rain boots. At Nordstrom Rack, I stumbled upon a solution: Original Kids Rain Boots in a bright yellow. I’m 5’2” with size 6.5/7 feet and these boots are perfect. I got a 5B/6G and they fit and hit my legs high enough that they don’t look funny, but low enough that they don’t make sitting with my legs crossed incredibly uncomfortable. I finally wore them for the first time yesterday when it was pouring and thunder-storming in DC and I’m so happy with them. I’ll definitely be posting more outfit pictures with them in the future but if you’re also petite and have small feet, the kids boots are the way to go.
