One of the things I love about big cities like New York and DC is that there’s always somewhere new to go and something new to try. I wanted to share a few of the places in DC I’ve been loving lately!
Kafe Leopold // Leopold’s is an amazing brunch or dinner spot, especially if you love traditional German and Austrian flavors. Karley and I went to check it out on a rainy Sunday morning and we ended up both getting the same thing – a skillet with eggs, mushroom, spaetzle, and bratwurst. Karley had never had most of the ingredients before, but I grew up having bratwurst and spaetzle at my grandma’s house. We both loved it! Karley got to try something new and I got to taste a spin on a classic. They also have an AMAZING pastry case so go hungry!
Board Room DC // I LOVE board games. I’m competitive, which doesn’t help, but as a kid, I needed to be constantly entertained and board games were one of my favorite distractions. Two Sundays ago it was rainy but I wanted to do something fun and I found Board Room DC while looking up ‘things to do in DC when it rains’ online. It’s a bar with a wall of board games to choose from so you can sit, sip and play. It was such a fun Sunday activity and I really want to go back before I leave DC! Get food beforehand or be prepared to use Postmates because they don’t serve food there but are fine with you bringing it in.
National Arboretum // In New York if you want to have a picnic you go to Central Park; if you want to have a picnic in DC, the National Arboretum is your place. I’d never been so I wasn’t sure what to expect but really loved the space. There were children flying kites, friends having lunch on the lawn and a ton of cute dogs walking around. If you’re looking for an activity, they do have a really incredible Japanese garden with amazing little trees, but I think the open space is what really shines. Take full advantage by stopping at Union Market for food before heading to the Arboretum!
POV Lounge at the W Hotel // Sticking with the theme of the week (sharing things I did months ago and forgot to write about), I celebrated my 22nd birthday with friends at the POV Lounge. Being the New Yorker that I am, I wanted something that reminded me of home and POV was perfect. It has amazing views of the White House and is completely open during the summer. We went in January so the views were slightly obstructed by the plastic curtains keeping the heat inside, but with heating lamps, it was totally comfortable. It was such a fun place to celebrate my birthday and I think it’d be perfect for a summer happy hour or sunset drinks!
