Early June is my favorite time to go to the beach. It’s not too crowded yet because kids are still in school and it’s not too hot yet either. We got lucky with beautiful weather and very small crowds for my weekend in Ocean City, NJ, which made shooting this post easier than expected. I hate shopping for both bathing suits and jean shorts, so the fact that a post like this was even possible is a miracle.
I got this bikini last year because I liked how different the top was. While the high neckline is less than ideal for tanning, it’s so much easier to wear than a typical triangle bathing suit because I don’t have to worry about it sliding around or coming off with a strong wave. I got it from Becca which has been one of my favorite swim shops for a while. It’s in a couple of different stores (I’ve seen it at South Moon Under, Macy’s, Bloomingdales, and even Nordstrom Rack on occasion) which is so important to me because I refuse to buy bathing suits online. Sometimes I think only shopping in stores makes my options a lot more limited than they might otherwise be because you never know what styles and sizes you’ll find but with the number of pieces, I have to try on to figure out what fits me it’d be a waste of time and money trying to order online. I also love Becca because their collections make it really easy to mix and match. When I got this suit I also got another top to go with the bottom because it works so well with either top and makes my limited swim collection feel a little bit more versatile.
These jean shorts are perfect for a beach day because the window cutouts can make them hard to wear with normal clothing. They’re very festival-season-esque but work for the beach too!
I know it sounds a little weird but I love bringing sweatshirts to the beach. It’s always ten degrees cooler and windier by the water so as soon as the sun goes down I need one to stay warm. They’re also so comfy to put on after changing out of a wet suit. This cute little cactus sweatshirt is Vintage Havana and was perfect for an afternoon walking around on the boardwalk. It was also incredibly light and with the cutouts, I didn’t get too hot while the sun was still out.
