DC is notorious for weird weather. One day it’ll feel like 80, and the next day there could be snow falling and temperatures of 30 degrees. You never know what you’re going to get, making layers and transitional pieces key. These are two of my favorite outfits for spring, especially on days when it starts out at 45 but feels like 75 by midday.
Dresses and light outerwear are one of my absolute favorite combinations because I get hot so easily. A jean jacket takes a plain dress up a notch, keeps you warm in the morning or in air-conditioned buildings, and is just as easy to take off without ruining the outfit if it gets too hot. I love the detail on the jacket and the colors on the back make it so much easier to decide what other color accessories to pair with it. It’s also oversized and has a broken-in feel, which makes it even more comfy! (For reference, I’m wearing a size small.)
Sneakers are a must for me. At this point, I’m starting to think I own more pairs than most guys I know. I remember in high school I would wear sandals the first day it got nice out and my toes would freeze while I stood waiting for the bus. With 8 AM classes, it’s not worth the cold walk to class, so sneakers keep my feet warm without being too hot or bulky in the afternoon. I love slip-ons because they’re so easy and a little bit cuter than tennis shoes but white converse are a classic go-to.
The best thing about scarves is that there are so many ways to wear one! They’re great to add to an outfit before heading out, either for a pop of color (like mine) or to spice it up, especially if you’re not big on necklaces, and can be easily taken off when it starts to warm up (and are a lot less bulky to carry around than a jacket). I got my Lilly Pulitzer scarf as a gift with purchase at some point but didn’t start wearing it until recently. I like it tied with knots on both ends but not wrapped around my neck as pictured above and below, but I could just as easily wear it tied in a more classic way! I’m also currently loving this scarf with tassels from Kate Spade’s new collection.
