This was my first roll of film from Kodak’s “professional” line (Porta 400), so I was both nervous and hopeful shooting it – I really didn’t want another blank or broken roll. I shot a mix of fully manual and programmed shutter speed, using “Sunny 16” and a light meter app in an attempt to get great colors.
I processed this roll with The Darkroom and ordered higher quality scans than I think I usually get at my neighborhood spot, which made color editing easier, as a few came out a little orange for my liking. I think the quality made a difference and would definitely recommend the upgrade.
I think I’m starting to get a handle on setting up my shot as well. These came out a million times better than some of my first photos from around New York City, in angle, color and focus. Overall I’m really happy with how the photos came out! My only complaint is that it was so cloudy when we went to Hollywood Studios. I loved the old Hollywood vibes entering the park and on the main streets and think the photos could have come out even better against blue skies.
