With restrictions lifting and transportation around the city feeling safer, I’ve been venturing out of my neighborhood more. My friend Lily was planning her upcoming trip to New York City when she asked if we could go to Misi for dinner. I’d never heard of it before but shortly after she mentioned it I was seeing whipped ricotta crostinis all over my feed.
We were able to snag a reservation for a Sunday evening when she was in town and popped across the bridge to Williamsburg for an early dinner. Brooklyn always feels to me like an entirely different place from Manhattan and stepping into Misi was no different. The natural light was so beautiful, something that’s near impossible to find in a restaurant in Manhattan. With light pouring in and ample space between tables, the indoor dining experience was far different from what I’ve gotten used to. After everyone arrived we promptly ordered a bottle of wine. Being used to Sauvignon Blanc I was at a loss when it came to the Italian and Austrian whites on the menu, so we went with the waiter’s recommendation, a bottle of the Prager’s Hinter der Burg Federspiel. It was a perfect light white and everyone was surprised by how much they liked it.
We went all-in on appetizers and pastas with a plan to share everything. We started with the grilled apricots and whipped ricotta crostini, fava and butter bean salad, and grilled artichokes. All three were perfect for a warm summer night. The whipped ricotta was so sweet it could’ve been dessert but I can see why it’s a fan favorite. I’d definitely go back for the bean salad.
For mains, we ordered 30-clove rigatoni, spinach and mascarpone tortelli (my favorite of the night!), ricotta occhi, and the anchovy linguine. The linguine was salty but not fishy and the filled pastas were creamy and savory. They were all gone too quickly.
We weren’t quite full and I had heard the dessert was worth it so we ordered a round of gelato to top-off the meal. It was fresh and delicious, as predicted. My favorite was the mint chip.
After dinner, we walked across the street to Domino Park to take pictures in front of the Williamsburg bridge, then walked north along the water. It was a solid ten degrees cooler than the heart of Manhattan making it a perfect evening. We decided to take advantage of it and took the ferry back to Manhattan instead of the subway or a cab. It was such a lovely night and got me excited to explore more of Brooklyn!
