Smorgasburg

I know I’m late to the party but just because it’s not as new and exciting anymore, doesn’t mean you should overlook Smorgasburg. If you’re planning a weekend trip to Smorgasburg, I have three pieces of advice for you.

  1. Check the location. The market alternates between Williamsburg on Saturday and Prospect Park on Sunday so make sure you have the correct location before you go.
  2. Come hungry. Be Prepared to eat, and eat a lot.
  3. Bring cash. Most of the booths are cash-only. There is an ATM near the entrance but you’ll likely end up spending the money you could’ve spent on food on ATM fees.

That being said, you should definitely try to make it at least once in your life. I went with my family around 2 PM on a Sunday and it was incredibly hot but the lines weren’t terrible. We were there on the day of the Gay Pride Parade in Manhattan so that could have also contributed to our luck with crowds.

My priority of the day was to try the Ramen Burger. I was in luck and found it with relative ease and with almost no line. The burger features ramen noodle buns and a teriyaki sauce. I have to say, it was really good but not especially filling, which wasn’t necessarily a bad thing because there was more I wanted to try. I had seen coconuts, pineapples and watermelons and went on a mission to get myself a pineapple. I thought it was a short line, then realized it wrapped around behind the booth and down the sidewalk. My parents whined about waiting in line for $10 juice but it was worth it. Also the labor that goes into those drinks is insane so I totally understand the cost.

They have pineapples, watermelons, grapefruit, dragon fruit, and orange as options. I (obviously) went with the pineapple and it was the best $10 I ever spent on fruit. They take the insides out of the fruit, juice it, and put it back into the hollowed out fruit with ice. You can also add agave or a few other mix-ins, but I didn’t think the pineapple juice would really need any extra sweetener. The juice was really good, but there was SO much of it. I almost couldn’t finish it, there was so much juice and it was so sweet but it was delicious.

My mom was too hot to get anything, but my dad got sesame noodles from Noodle Lane (pictured below) and really enjoyed them. If you go on a busy day and don’t want to wait in line for a ramen burger or juice, I’ve heard really great things about Mighty Quinn’s BBQ, the churros looked incredible, and oysters are always a good option (and I think they shuck them in front of you!)

If you’re in Manhattan it’s definitely worth the trip out to Brooklyn! Check out more of my outfit details below. My romper is sold out but I included links to a few similar styles at the bottom.
