From the time I was five up until I was a teenager, there was nothing I hated more than brushing my hair. I have naturally wavy hair and brushing it ruined the texture. Over time I learned how to straighten my hair, then curl it, and then finally blow dry it, and after 20 years of not knowing what to do with my hair on a regular basis, I think I’ve finally got it down.
The first major change was adjusting to a new curling iron. I used the same wand for years on end and it was great. I loved my curls, but it was definitely not a casual, relaxed look (unless it was three-day-old hair). Then my friend Lily taught me how to use a wand with a clip. After avoiding them for years, and with a little coaching, I eventually got the hang of the new device. The curls it makes don’t hold as long or as well as the ones my regular wand created but they look more natural and bouncy, which I love.
I nailed the curls, but unless my hair was already dry, I still needed two steps for perfect hair. I’m a no-fuss kind of gal and love being able to get things done in as few steps as possible. In case you couldn’t guess, 10-step beauty routines are not my jam. Enter: the Dyson blow dryer.
I don’t know how to use round brushes (maybe that’s next on my #hairgoals list) and hate sectioning off my hair to style it. I love a tool that can do it all for me and that’s without a doubt my Dyson. I use the styling nozzle for perfect hair in less than five minutes every time.
I’ve been hesitant to write this post because I couldn’t say for certain if it was worth the money. To be honest, I still can’t say it’s worth $400, but I will say it’s a luxury I love having. The first time I used a regular blow dryer after totally adjusting to my Dyson I was so frustrated by how long it took and how frizzy my hair still was after using it. I felt like I needed to run an iron over it before I could go out. My own pre-Dyson blowdryer alleviated that problem but would always burn my scalp because of how hot it got.
Could I make do with a regular hair dryer? Yes, of course I could, but I love having a one-stop-shop tool that gives me a salon blow-out in a fraction of the time. If you have a great routine or have time to take time for your hair it’s definitely a splurge but if you’re more of the mindset that time is money you can’t go wrong with a Dyson.
