This week midterms are in full swing. I’m about halfway done with mine so I decided to get off campus this weekend and spend some time downtown. Saturday my roommate and I went to the Walk to End Alzheimer’s on the National Mall which was a very powerful event. They hand out flowers for participants to carry during the walk and each color represents something different. There are colors for people living with Alzheimer’s, those who lost a family member, those who are caregivers and even a color for those who are just a supporter of the cause. It was really moving to see how many people’s lives were affected by the disease and how many people came out to support the cause.
Sunday I met up with an old friend downtown again and we started our day at Astro Donuts and Fried Chicken. I’ve talked about their donuts before in this post, but I had never tried their fried chicken until today. Let me tell you, it was SO good. We got one of their fall donuts which had apple pie filling and that was also incredible. After an easy brunch, we walked around the mall and I finally got to see the fall displays at Center City! Each season they change the decorations and I loved being able to look up at the leaves. The decorations made it feel like fall even though it was 80 degrees out. Besides the lack of fall weather we’ve been having in DC, here’s what’s been on my mind this week!
one // Fall Mugs – I love warm fall drinks. I’m a huge fan of the Apple Spice drink at Starbucks and I get so excited the second I can start drinking hot chocolate. I’m loving these cute fall mugs and just had to share!
two // Pumpkin Chocolate Bread – Banana bread is one of my favorite things to bake but I love this fall take on it! I’m thinking about trying it out in the next two weeks but if anyone beats me to it, let me know how it comes out!
three // Cozy Cabin Dress – KJP released their newest dress yesterday and I am obsessed. I love how it effortlessly makes flannel feminine and the patterns it comes in are so cute. It’s also perfect for staying warm while looking cute (if it ever gets cold enough to wear flannel)!
four // Halloween Solo Costumes – With the third week of October marks the third week of Halloween costume recommendations! This week I’m sharing some great solo costume ideas. The first is one I’ve always wanted to do but never followed through on – a ballerina! I never took dance or ballet classes growing up so I always thought it would be fun to throw on a leotard and tutu for a night! Another great one is making a pun into a costume. I always appreciate a good pun and they can be really cute! One I saw online was holy guacamole (complete with halo). My last suggestion is a classic – Audrey Hepburn. The easiest way is with a black dress, pearls, black gloves and a bun, but if you want to step it up a notch take a cue from Big Little Lies and go as Holly Golightly in her nightgown with the aqua eye mask and tassel earrings.
