Monday Musings // DC Fashion Week

This week was without a doubt the most exciting of the semester so far. Thursday night I got to attend the opening night of DC Fashion Week and it was my first fashion week experience ever. It was an open event (you had to get tickets but they were free) so I didn’t really have any idea of what to expect. When I first got off the waitlist I freaked out and immediately questioned what to wear. I decided you can’t go wrong with black and opted for black wax jeans, a black tee, my olive suede moto jacket and black pumps. I ended up regretting the pumps but that’s fashion for ya.

I was surprised to learn the designers were all college students as young as 17 years old and each showed anywhere from 1-20 pieces. Most showed 3-5 pieces that could work together as a collection and all showed completely different styles and personalities. Some of the trends I noticed from NYFW were still prevalent at DCFW even with young designers – there was a lot of metallic and fall florals and everything they presented was very cool.

After each designer’s pieces were shown, the designer came out and the host asked each designer their age, school and what inspired them. There were press, bloggers, photographers and more there, but it was in a crowded bar and with a makeshift runway so it was a little difficult to actually see what was happening and meet anyone. Regardless it was still very cool and I hope there are more fashion shows in my future!

This week I’m keeping the musings short after all the fashion week details, but here’s what’s been on my radar lately!

one // SheIn – I’ve been hearing about SheIn for months but since it’s so cheap I was hesitant to order. I went on last week and found SO many good things that I knew I had to test it out for myself. I ended up ordering way too much but I can’t wait to see how it all fits and hopefully have a bunch of new outfits to share with you guys soon!

two //  Bean Boots – If you haven’t already heard, the time to buy bean boots is now. I got mine last year because I was working at vineyard vines and wanted to have shoes I could wear in rain or snow that were still on-brand for work. They were always too big on me and the L.L. Bean store in Tyson’s actually let me exchange them a year later and now I finally have a pair that looks proportional to my feet! They’re great for rain or bad weather (which is all too common in D.C.) and you really can’t beat their customer service. Get yours before they sell out for the season, and order more than one size down! For reference, I’m a women’s size 6.5/7 and I was between a kids size 3 and 4.

three // Fluffy sweatshirt – This fall I have been all about the soft and fuzzy outerwear. When I was exchanging my bean boots yesterday I stopped in Francesca’s and couldn’t walk out without this sweatshirt. (You can see how it fits on in my latest Instagram!) They sold a matching vest but they didn’t have my size in stock. The saleswoman was nice enough to call four other stores for me, but no one had it in stock. I ended up getting the quarter-zip but when I looked online they still had it so I ended up ordering it when I got home. I have a feeling both the quarter zip and vest will go quickly because they’re SO comfy and so affordable so get your hands on one while you can because they’re definitely a worthwhile fall purchase.
