American University is a very strange school in that people dress up for class. At most schools, oversized t-shirts and shorts or leggings are a back to school norm but at AU you will definitely look out of place if you show up to class in an outfit completed by running sneakers. I’m taking a one-credit yoga class so I can graduate on time and I have to wear yoga appropriate clothing to class twice a week, so I like to dress up a little on my other days to balance it out.
I think loafers, especially statement ones, are the perfect shoe to elevate a simple outfit. When I saw these backless studded loafers I knew I had to have them. They’re totally different from everything else I own and I can slide them on with black jeans a t-shirt and automatically feel like I’m making a statement and looking great, while still feeling comfortable.
I wore this exact outfit for my first day of work training last week and I’ve been waiting to wear it again now that classes have started. It’s a perfect outfit for a day when I have class, work and meetings because it’s nice enough for all three while still being comfortable.
I got this specific pair of loafers at my local TJ Maxx for almost 70% off making them a total steal but if you can’t find them by you, there’s an almost identical pair still available at Nordstrom. They are still full price there, but if you want to copy the whole look, the jeans and top are both on major sale making the shoes totally splurge-worthy!
I also cannot say enough good things about the bag. It’s deceptively spacious and I can fit an entire day’s worth of things in it. I’ll be sharing a full review of it and what I carry in my school bag later this month but if you’re looking for a new tote for school this one is amazing.
Top: AQUA by Bloomingdales (on sale!); jeans: Carmar Denim (also on sale!!); tote: Tory Burch; shoes: Dolce Vita
