My Love-Hate Relationship with Camo

Last summer I was working at vineyard vines and we got in a new version of our classic tote bag: it was the classic canvas bottom, but the top print was camo with little pink whales. Let’s just say I wasn’t a fan. The store staff was split on the camo – half of us loved it and half of us hated it – I was obviously in the latter half. Fast forward to December, I’m shopping with my friend and I end up trying on a camo t-shirt with a black leather skirt and I immediately fell in love with the look. I thought it was so cool, cute and casual all in one. The one I tried on happened to be $70 so I started my search for a cheaper tee until I could decide if it was just trendy or really something I liked. I finally found one at Forever 21 for around $10 and I went for it.

I’m so glad I did because I wear it ALL the time. I’ve always loved olive green for fall and it’s so easy to throw on a camo tee over regular wash or black jeans in August, because I don’t know about you but I am NOT suffering through 80 degree days wearing a suede jacket in the name of fashion, no matter what the stores tell me to do.

In case you didn’t believe camo was insanely trendy this year, it’s even in J. Crew right now!! I’m still not a huge fan of camo jackets, hats or other accessories (everything in moderation), but I think you can’t go wrong with having a basic camo tee in your closet! For skirts, pants, and jackets I think plain olive is much more versatile! I still haven’t splurged on a jacket but I have green skirts and pants that I wear all fall long! Not that long ago I shared one of my favorite skirts (in olive of course) paired with a graphic tee, which you can find here. I linked a few of my favorite pieces below if you want to try out the trend yourself!

A simple and affordable tee to start with, camo jeans for the bold, an olive skirt, olive leggings that look beyond comfy, for the ultra-trendy

I used to think camo was super tacky and only okay if you were hunting, and it made sense! But I think in moderation it can be really cute, like with this tee! It’s super casual and can be a great piece you were a lot of different ways!
