Just like day one, day two was centered all-around food. We started the day with brunch at the Macintosh. If you can, try to get a table outside and definitely make a reservation regardless. We got there a little before our 10:30 AM reservation and it was pretty empty but by 11:00 every table was taken. We started with the poutine fries with pork belly and wow – they were incredible. The pork belly was an amazing add-on and they were pretty much gone as soon as we got them. They’re a huge portion though so definitely better the more people you have. We were four and it was the perfect amount for each of us as an appetizer. I wouldn’t call myself a picky eater but I’m hesitant to try new things usually. That being said, I went with the breakfast sandwich – bacon, egg and cheddar cheese on a bun. As soon as I bit into it the egg broke and pretty much all fell onto the plate. The yolk was great to dip in though so I made it work. It was one of the best breakfast sandwiches I’ve ever had.
After brunch, I insisted we check out Rainbow Row. It was much less assuming than I thought it would be – we weren’t even sure that was it until we saw other people taking pictures of it. The entire area around East Bay Street is absolutely stunning. The houses down the side streets are so picturesque and from the water, you get an incredible view of the bridge. We spent hours walking around the East Bay area and then around the tip of the peninsula towards the western side of the city. During our walk around we saw beautiful houses, cute dogs and SO many wedding parties – both brides and grooms and soon-to-be brides and bachelorette parties. It was one of the prettiest areas I’ve ever been to. After walking through the park on the water we went up King Street and the houses were incredible. I made everyone stop so I could take pictures and get a longer look at almost every single one.
By mid-afternoon we had walked almost the entirety of the main Charleston area. We drove over the bridge to Sullivan’s Island and walked on the beach. I love the feeling of sand between my toes for the first time in a long time and the water wasn’t too cold to wade in. We gave our feet a break and sat on the beach taking in the sun and watching the waves crash. My shoulders started to turn bright red and we realized it might be time to get out of the sun. We walked towards the main road and found Home Team. Their signature drink is the Game Changer. From the first sip you can tell it’s strong but it’s the perfect slushy drink for a hot day. I also got mac and cheese balls which were incredible but I’m partial to anything that has cheese and carbs. It was perfect to hold us over until dinner, which was so extensive and incredible that I realized it needed it’s own post entirely.
